Improving access, circulation and orientation to the airport to help travellers calmly start or finish their journeys
Set against a backdrop of ongoing traffic problems and inadequate wayfinding upon entering the existing airport at Birmingham, Fereday Pollard were commissioned directly by the airport to look at measures to improve the access, circulation and to promote measures that will help the traveller to calmly start or finish their journey.
After careful understanding of the issues, we designed this wayfinding mast as part of an integrated solution to the access issues to be both a pragmatic tool to guide the traveller and also to act as a beacon and a landmark for the airport itself.
The mast itself was designed out of curved and coloured stainless steel to reflect the fluidity and movement of travel and as a piece of sculpture that would be synonymous with the airport itself.
