Hanwell Station Access for All

Developing an Access for All design scheme for Hanwell Station

Clients
  • A new lift shaft to platform 3, a new lift shaft to platforms 1 & 2, and associate plant accommodation to the north secondary entrance.
  • Design approach allows the proposed lift shaft to sit alongside the existing station building and referneces the original brick design features.
  • A glass and steel canopy structure, at street level harmonises the physical separation between the existing station and the proposed shaft.
  • At platform level, both the lift and lift machine room have been carefully designed to insert seamlessly between the existing platform screens, so as not to imbalance the rhythm of the platform structure.
  • New area of plant accommodation, either side of the south secondary entrance designed as a simple louvred structure, with a glazed canopy (similar to the south entrance) to unite both entrances of the station.
  • The scheme received support from The Railway Heritage Trust.

In 2016, Fereday Pollard were appointed to develop a revised design for Hanwell Station Access for All scheme, based upon a previous GRIP 2 / 3 proposal and initial feedback from the Local Authority.

The scheme comprises three key elements

  • a new lift shaft to platform 3
  • a new lift shaft to platforms 1 & 2
  • associate plant accommodation to the north secondary entrance.

Fereday Pollard’s scope also included the development of the scheme design preparation of a Form 004.
