New platforms, ancillary infrastructure, underpasses and extensions to the existing railway station at Stratford, east London to create a new transport interchange and connections to the adjacent Olympic Park.
£10m
This fast-track commission, to provide concept, detail design and documentation services, required key stakeholder consultation and technical coordination for new platforms, platform canopies, passenger lifts, stairs, underpasses and staff platform accommodation.
The commission resulted from the extension of Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services to Stratford, and the need for new platforms serving North London Line services. The new infrastructure was delivered inside an operational station, a fact reflected in the prefabrication and staging of the contract delivery.
The finished construction was delivered in robust, self finished materials, selected to minimise future maintenance and maximise resistance to heavy useage and vandalism. Cladding of lift, underpass and staff accommodation structures was also selected to be consistent with the stations reputation as a showcase for contemporary design.
Platforms and points of access and egress were designed in conjunction with our clients patronage forecast studies and planned accordingly. The staff platform accommodation, highly insulated and clad in reinforced zinc cassettes, provided administration and mess facilities, staff sign-on and changing accommodation.
